The Challenge

Our client required a standout feature bar unit to act as the centrepiece of a private luxury residence. The design needed to feel light and open, while managing complex materials – solid brass, frosted glass, backlit onyx, and integrated lighting – without any visible fixings or joins.

Our Approach

We developed the concept into a buildable structure, designing custom tooling and working through the technical challenges of structural load, appearance, and assembly.

The bar includes three open shelves topped with a deep overhead canopy. While the brass appears delicate in form, the solid 20mm thick surrounds hold much of the structure’s weight.

Each shelf has a recessed front edge, into which we bonded long, fluted brass strips. To produce these, we built a fluting tool in-house, designed to run sheet brass through shaped rollers to form a consistent curved profile. The flutes were polished before being fixed flush into the recesses.

Each shelf also features a 6mm brass fiddle rail running along the front edge, made in one piece without visible joins. Above, the soffit is finished in brass panels and includes a louvred section hiding LED lighting. Frosted glass panels sit flush across the shelf tops, supported discreetly by the metalwork.

Behind the bar, a concealed stainless-steel frame provides stability and carries the large slabs of pink onyx. The brass uprights continue down to the marble bar top and are anchored with hidden mounts.

All brass surfaces were polished by hand to a soft brushed finish and wax sealed.

The Results

The finished piece brings together technical detail, structural know-how, and a strong visual presence. Every part, from the bespoke tooling to the flush-fitted elements, was shaped around the needs of this unique commission. The result is a central feature that draws attention and stands up to daily use.
